I'm currently looking at the web site of one client . It's made with 1.5.3 . I wanted to make a "newbie webmaster mistakes" based on the clients web site.

Here is my newbie webmaster mistakes" list and you can add your owns mistakes as comment to this post

1. I never care about the hosting: Never care about the hosting. You can use a shared server that hosts hundreds of other sites, some of which are high-traffic porn sites. ( You can thing hosting as your home. Hosting is the home of your php script (or Joomla!). Can you live 999999 people in a room? If you choose a bad hosting company, You will expect your Joomla! to live 999999 web sites on a hosting? When you do this, can you expect anything from your Joomla!?)
2. I use php 4 : I choose a hosting compony which provides me php 4. (It's a great reason to stay away from a hosting company which does not provides you php 5. Php 4 dates back to 2000)
3. I never make backup : I never care about it. My hosting company must make backups and e-mails to me. (This is another bad mistake you can ever do. Joomla! users are so lucky for this issue. Because Joomla! has great backup components. It's a good idea to visit the related "Joomla! Extensions Directory" category and download the backup component)
4. I do not loose my time to adjust Joomla! and php settings for the best security: I can not waste my time to adjust Joomla! or php settings. They must read my brain and they must adjust theirselfs (This one of the biggest mistakes you can ever do. let me give an example: if you try to use your Joomla! with register_globals on or chmod 777, You can see the door of hell)
5. I use simple username and passwords: I have no time to use complex usernames and passwords. I allways choose the simple ones and I use the same password and username for every account (for my Joomla! admins, my e-mails account, ftp accounts etc). My Joomla! must recognize me from my eyes (Using complex usernames and passwords will help you to have maximum security)
6. I never care about the upgrades: Who cares about the upgrades? I download the script (or component) and i never do upgrades. (If you are using Joomla!, You are lucky. You have one of the most secure cms on planet. If you are using Joomla!, You are not lucky because of its popularity. Bad guys are allways trying to find a security hole of Joomla!. It's better to apply the upgrades. Joomla! has a great component called JUPDATEMAN . Your upgrades will take maximum 30 secods)
7. I never contact the extension provider: I use Joomla! extensions . If i have question or support issue, I allways visit the Joomla! forums and Joomla! Extension Directory, I ask them to support me (When you have a problem with a Joomla! extension, The support must be provided the extension provider. Joomla! developers (or Joomla! Extensions Directory team) does not provide support for extensions. Extensions developers must provide support)

Note: This blog post lists the mistakes. Do not do them. It says 'I use php 4'. It means do not use php 4. do the opposite
